PROJECTS

My work has always developed across several projects at the same time, reflecting the different aspects of my activities as a documentary filmmaker, film historian, consultant, journalist and photographer.

Current and ongoing projects range from film restoration and rediscovery, including The Black Magic with Buddha and the Whapung Films collection, to documentary and home-video productions, interviews, video essays and archival projects produced for international film labels and cultural partners.

Alongside commissioned work, I continue to develop independent documentaries, video essays and editorial projects, drawing on more than twenty-five years of interviews, photographs, research and audiovisual archives.

Explore the sections below to discover these projects and follow their development.

THE BLACK MAGIC WITH BUDDHA

Since 2024, I have been involved in the restoration and international rediscovery of Lo Lieh's cult film The Black Magic with Buddha (1983), working with the original film elements and coordinating with rights holders, restoration facilities and international distributors.

The project includes the reconstruction of different versions of the film, archival research and the preparation of new restored masters and bonus material.

WHAPUNG FILMS

Whapung Films is an ongoing project dedicated to the rediscovery and restoration of rare Korean films produced by filmmaker Chung Chang-wha, in collaboration with the Korean Film Archive (KOFA).

Working from surviving original film elements, the project aims to bring back films that have remained largely inaccessible for decades and introduce them to a new international audience.

DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING

I have been producing documentaries, bonus features and video essays since 2003, working with French and international film distributors, publishers and cultural organisations.

My projects explore film history through original interviews, archival research and first-hand testimony, with a particular focus on Asian cinema and the people who made it.

This section brings together selected portraits, festival photography, behind-the-scenes images and material from my photographic archives.

My photography work includes several years as official photographer for L'Étrange Festival, while part of my Hong Kong cinema photographic archive was presented in an exhibition in Lyon in 2024.
